This is a question we hear a lot at Maple Crest. The answer is: It depends on what “that” is… Is it an Assisted Living, Home Care, Nursing Home Care or Hospice?
Your loved may be ready for assisted living if they are ready to downsize and would like to have fewer chores. The loss of their spouse may determine the need for change with options to have life enrichment and social activities available. They also may find their friends have moved to a really nice community and they would like to be close to them. Your loved one may need assistance with daily activities and personal cares which could help determine the need for Assisted Living or Nursing Home care. In Assisted Living, assistance is available in many forms, from companionship, transportation, household chores to personal care such as bathing, dressing, cooking, housekeeping, and driving. Nursing Home provides a much high level of nursing care then Assisted Livings can provide. A simple assessment can help determine the appropriate placement for your loved one. If your loved one wants to stay in their home, home care is another option. Please keep in mind Home Health Care, Nursing Home Care & Hospice are all doctor ordered.
If your loved one seems overwhelmed by their current situation, or they are lonely, consider scheduling lunch at a local assisted living or nursing home, they may make the decision on their own once they see a carefree lifestyle.
